DNA reported that the Central Bureau of Investigation special court has issued summons to former chief minister Mr BS Yeddyurappa and 12 others for allegedly favoring mining companies and accepting kickbacks.

In its charge sheet filed in October, the CBI has also named Mr Yeddyurappa’s 2 sons Mr BY Vijayendra and Mr BY Raghavendra, his son in law Mr RN Sohan Kumar among the accused.

The court stated that they have to appear on December 10th 2012.

The charge sheet said that as CM Mr Yeddyurappa had misused powers and favored private companies after accepting donations from them for trusts run by his family members. Mr Yeddyurappa had allegedly carried out illegal land denotification, after receiving kickbacks to the tune of around 30 crore through his family members, also named in the case.

Charge sheet added that “During investigation the police revealed that the accused had allegedly hatched a criminal conspiracy between 2006 and 2010. Mr Yeddyurappa’s 2 sons and son in law had purchased land for 0.40 million, which was notified for acquisition by the Karnataka government by violating various laws.”

The said land was later denotified by the former chief minister, allegedly by abusing his official position and violating government rules. The same land was sold for INR 20 crore to group of Bellary based private companies, though the then guidance value was INR 1.5 crore.

Investigations also revealed that this amount was allegedly given as a quid pro quo for not insisting on the recovery of INR 890 crore from the same company, which was a loss to the state government.

Further, it is revealed that this company had allegedly paid, through its sister companies, a donation of INR 20 to a trust run by Mr Yeddyurappa’s kin.

The others named in the charge sheet include Prerana Educational and Social Trust, represented by Mr Raghavendra and Mr Krishnaiah Shetty; JSW Steel Ltd, represented by CMD Mr Sajjan Jindal; South West Mining Ltd, represented by Mr Anil Sood; Mr Vinod Nowal CEO of JSW Steel; Mr Vikas Sharma VP of JSW Steel; Real Technical Solution Pvt Ltd, represented by Mr Srikanth Shetty; Bharat Technical Services Pvt Ltd, represented by Mr Muralidhar Dash and Techno Manpower Supply Services Pvt Ltd, represented by Mr Vivekananda Kulkarni.

Charges have been filed against them under Sections u/s.120-B r/w 109, 420, 468, 471 of Indian Penal Code and Sections 7, 9, 11, 12, 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 9 r/w Sec.4 of Karnataka Land (Restriction on) Transfer Act.
